Kitsuné (Japanese word for fox) Espresso Bar is a place where specialty coffee and craftsmanship are combined. When Montreal designer François Beauregard of Space FB (known for his attention to detail designs and excellent garment quality) opened the doors of Kitsuné this past summer with his partner, it instantly became a go-to spot for all of the neighbours encompassing The Main. The same attention to detail is reflected in his café; with it’s industrial concept and minimalist aesthetic, Beauregard wanted this space to be a place where people could feel comfortable enough to hang out in or loiter around outside. Richard John, who manages Kitsuné incorporated his love for music and cycling into this tiny space where cyclists can come and leave their bikes at the bike rack installed inside and the lovers of vinyl can come spin their records on the turntable every Wednesday.

The ambiance at Kitsuné is definitely one that’ll have you coming back, especially with its friendly staff. The communal seating arrangements allow for an array of clientele from students to bloggers and writers, music lovers and cyclists, to come across one another for good conversation; there are always interesting people to meet buzzing in and out of here all day long! It’s one of those places that will charm any café connoisseur. With the “third wave” coffee trend slowly dominating in direct trade coffee and high quality beans, it has created this high demand for using flawless techniques for producing coffee which is setting standards for baristas worldwide. Kitsuné didn’t shy away from picking up on this and incorporating the art of coffee into their café. Each beverage is measured with precision and all lattes are finished with latte art, which you promptly destroy with your first sip. Among their knowledgeable baristas, there is also a small selection of local bakers treats that change daily along with a personal favourite, a homemade peach-ginger jam topped with plain yogurt and granola.
