Whoever said vegan doesn’t taste good has yet to try one of Montreal’s newest cake shops, Sophie Sucrée. Operated by chef and owner Milène Laoun, Sophie Sucrée finally opened its doors in July of 2013 and are offering up some delicious cakes and treats for those with the occasional sweet tooth. But no need to feel guilty: all of the recipes are vegan and some of them even gluten free!

Some of their best: brownies with caramel and salted candied hazelnuts, lavender shortbread, five spice and cinnamon sticky buns and their “not red velvet” cupcakes with vanilla icing; just to name a few. They also serve an assortment of sandwiches as well as coffees and teas.

There’s a very inviting atmosphere upon entering this little cake shop, beyond the physical space itself. The staff are always happy to talk about recipes and ingredients whether you’re the health conscious type or not. Tables are set up along one wall and on the opposite side there is a beautiful arrangement of frames occupied by photos of some of Milène’s designer cakes. Sophie Sucrée also promotes local vegan products and suppliers by using Artisanal ice cream supplied by Sel Noir, a vegan catering company and jams from Preservation Society.

What else could be better than guilt free dessert? Well for starters, this little Montreal gem host’s special events such as gourmet brunches, high tea, and they give workshops for people who are interested in learning a thing or two about baking.
