Did you like James Cameron’s Avatar? If not the story (to each their own, we guess), were you impressed with the cinematography, visual effects, and costumes? If you weren’t, well, we don’t even know what to say. For everyone else, Cirque du Soleil is presenting a show you won’t want to miss.

Toruk: The First Flight is a beautiful adaptation of James Cameron’s Avatar. Instead of attempting to remake the movie, writer-directors Michel Lemieux and Victor Pilon took the Avatar universe and created a story 3,000 years prior to when the film takes place. No humans in this rendition, just the Na’vi and lots of volcanic eruptions.

If you’re worried that it won’t stay true to the film and James Cameron’s vision, you’ll be happy to know that Cameron had the final say on the creative content of the Cirque du Soleil show.

The story is about 3 young Na’vi people who are on a quest to ride the Toruk. The Toruk is the giant predatory airborne creature found in the Avatar world. It won’t be devoid of action, so it’s sure to keep you at the edge of your seats.

You’ll feel like you’re in the Avatar world once you enter the Bell Center. The show is meant to be immersive so you’ll be stepping into Pandora, not the Bell Center.

Cirque du Soleil really wants you to interact with the show in more ways than one, so they created an app (App Store, Google Play) with exclusive content like behind the scenes photos and videos and so much more. They also have an online game where you can discover and explore the world of Pandora so you can learn more about it.
