Montreal favourite Ryu has expanded. You’re no longer limited to its original location on Laurier. Oh no. Now Montrealers and Lavalers can get a quick bite of delicious Ryu-ness while shopping at Carrefour Laval.

Don’t picture your typical food court spot. Far from it. Ryu is its own mini restaurant within the mall, so you can go whilst shopping or even just head over to the mall for sushi, without breaking the bank at all the stores. The location is adorable, perfect for Instagram photo ops, and it kind of just calls your name as you’re passing by. You won’t even know you want sushi until you walk by its bright interior. The pull is just too strong.

If you’re worried about the menu, well you definitely shouldn’t be. It has all your Ryu Montreal favourites, and then some. We got to try a variety of plates and we left feeling stuffed, satisfied, and happy. Expanding the brand definitely did not mean sacrificing on taste.

One of their most popular dishes, the Club Ryu is a must. Stuffed to the brim and served sushi burrito style, it’s delicious and full of flavour. It has shrimp and scallop tempura, crabstick, tobiko, avocado, and spicy mayo.

Something new on the menu is their Bao Buns, filled with succulent pork or seafood. We have a good relationship with pork buns; they’re just so good every time.

The Ryu Tartare is another winner, packing a punch of flavour with a mix of tuna, salmon, avocado, tempura, spicy mayo, and red & black tobiko. It’s fresh and full of great ingredients that blend seamlessly.

Another favourite is the Hattori Hanzo maki. Mini maki wrapped in pink rice paper, they’re as tasty as they are cute. Filled with tuna, tempura, toban djan aioli, and topped with spicy mayo and popcorn shrimp, these maki are one bite wonders.

Another new treat is the addition of bubble teas! If you’re not hungry, you can still pass by for delicious tapioca filled drinks. Or you can grab one for dessert. Mmm mmm good!

Next time you’re in Laval, make sure to make a pit stop at Ryu‘s newest location, and maybe get in some shopping while you’re at it.
