British electronic artists and krautrock aficionados Fujiya & Miyagi are on tour following the release of their most recent album Artificial Sweeteners, which will see the band perform back-to-back shows in Toronto and Montreal. They’ll be hitting up La Vitrola alongside Austin experimental-rock-electronic duo Zorch.

Piknic Électronik wraps up its annual Labour Day trio of events, culminating with a Samouraï des Jungles Urbaines presentation. The influential local promoter helps curate a lineup that includes live sets by local producers Pomo and Dead Horse Beats, with Norwegian producer extraordinaire Cashmere Cat joining, and a closing set by Belgian DJ and Forma T. label owner Mathieu Fonsny, aka Surfing Leons.

Excitement is high in Montreal for Future Islands gig at Metropolis, which was recently upgraded from La Tulipe due to popular demand. The Baltimore synthpop band is currently feeling the love for its most recent release Singles and its Montreal gig will easily be a highlight within a pretty stacked September. There are a couple of discounted tickets left to purchase, but you’d better be quick!

Vancouver-based Aaron Hoffman, better known as SonReal, brings his brand of alt-hip hop to La Sala Rossa for a headlining gig with frequent collaborator Rich Kidd. This is his last Canadian performance before launching into his October “Everywhere We Go” US tour, with a Canadian exception for his stop at the Halifax Pop Explosion festival.

Unfamiliar with OUMF, the Montreal emerging arts festival now in its 4th edition? You needn’t worry; you’ve got plenty of time to familiarize yourself with one of Montreal’s coolest fall events before it takes over the Quartier Latin for three days. This free outdoor event boasts a killer lineup, with the help of M For Montreal, as well as a non-stop parade of activities, dance and theatre performances, and street art. Thursday’s lineup is packed with local favourites, including electro-pop trio Le Couleur, Senegalese troubadour Karim Ouellet, and pop-punk rockers Le Trouble, high off their recent appearance at Osheaga.

Legendary alt-rockers The Afghan Whigs recently released Do To The Beast, their first album of new material in 16 years, and are now making up for lost time. After performances at Latitude and Coachella, it’s time for Montreal to get a taste of their reunion at the Théâtre Corona alongside Joseph Arthur. Meanwhile OUMF continues for Day 2, which includes sets by hip hop groups The Posterz and Les Anticipateurs, as well as “post-rigodon” troublemakers Alaclair Ensemble.

Experimental electronic/rock band Zammuto is about to release its crowd-funded sophomore album Anchor and is already receiving some considerable buzz surrounding its release. A little stop at the Casa Del Popolo to catch the Vermont four-piece is probably a good idea. Or head over to the closing day of OUMF at the Quartier Latin where current Exclaim! cover star Rich Aucoin will be performing, as well as Toronto jazz/hip hop/electro trio BadBadNotGood, and local DJ and bounce maestro Poirier.
