One of our favourite neighbourhood health food bars celebrated their first birthday this summer. With new health-food spots popping up around the city, it’s nice to go back to old favourites, even if they’ve only been around for the past year.
Propped up in front of Cafe Olympico on St Viateur, VertU has prime real estate and has been generating buzz all year. Their salads, smoothie bowls, veggie burgers, and smoothies have been keeping health food lovers happy in the hood.
We went to their block party to celebrate their 1st birthday and jammed to DJ Andrew Pololos‘ beats while eating salads and poké bowls. We partied it up with one of our fave Montreal DJs and the super friendly VertU owners, definitely making this event one to remember.
As for the menu at VertU, you can find pretty much anything your healthy heart desires. Their tuna poké bowl is a real winner, with pineapple, edamame beans, soba noodles, sesame oil, soy sauce, sweet chilli, and lemon dressing. They also have a salmon poké that looks delicious.
They also have burritos that are packed to the brim with ingredients. If you want to avoid the carbs, get the burrito in a bowl. We love the El Toro burrito bowl, with black beans, grilled beef, brown rice, fresh veggies, beets, and pickles. Bonus: they also have chilli bowls!
Burger lovers, rejoice! They have a delicious veggie burger as well as a jackfruit burger. The whole menu at VertU isn’t vegan, but you can easily replace some ingredients to make your preferred meal vegan, if you so please.
And obviously, they have salad at VertU. We loved the Tuna Titanic, with carrots, tuna tatami, broccoli, green onions, ramen noodles, tamari almonds, red onions, avocados, cherry tomatoes, and Sriracha lime hoisin dressing. With fresh ingredients and generous portions, you won’t be disappointed.
For breakfast, you have to try their acai bowls. If their smoothies are any indication, these bowls are full of flavour and super tasty. The smoothies are perfect for a snack on the run, brightly coloured and delicious. They also have fresh juices. Mmm!
For your next health food fix, definitely head on over to VertU, then maybe head over to Olympico for their awesome coffee.
