Have you ever wanted to try that fabulous restaurant in the Old Port but wasn’t ready to shell out the big bucks? Or have you ever wanted to do your own restaurant crawl but not spend a month’s salary doing it (Are restaurant crawls a thing? They should be…)? Well, now you can! Well, for this month anyway. Happening Gourmand 2016 is here from January 7th to February 7th!
What is Happening Gourmand? It’s a month-long foodie event that lets all our inner gluttons try all those restaurants we’ve been meaning to sample. 8 Old Montreal restaurants offer a reduced price table d’hôte menu at $22, $25, or $29, depending on the restaurant.
The participating restaurants are: Bevo Bar + Pizzeria, Vieux-Port Steakhouse, Taverne Gaspar, Suite 701, Kyo Bar Japonais, Méchant Boeuf, Modavie, and Verses. If you want a look at each restaurant’s menu, click through the restaurant names above.
We attended their launch event and got to sample a lot of the dishes that will be available for your dining pleasure. We loved Bevo’s tortelloni stuffed with beef in a pesto cream sauce with mushrooms. It was earthy and meaty, just the way we like it.
Kyo’s beef sashimi with crispy garlic, green onions, and ponzu sauce was delicious, with just the right amount of kick. If you’re a mac and cheese lover, try Gaspar’s mac and cheese with aged cheddar. It had the right amount of cheesiness with some bacon and green onions to give it some oomf.
You can’t go wrong with any of these restaurants, so pick out of a hat and make your way ASAP! You’ll get a delicious 3 course meal at a great price.
To make the deal even sweeter, Happening Gourmand is partner with four boutique hotels, Le Place d’Armes Hôtel & Suites, Hôtel Nelligan, Le Petit Hôtel, and l’Auberge du Vieux-Port. They offer packages that include a one-night stay and a three-course dinner for two at one of the participating restaurants.
And for the EDM fans out there, Happening Gourmand has partnered with Igloofest again to offer a discount on this year’s festival with the purchase of a Happening Gourmand meal. There’s really nothing to lose, and everything to gain.
Which Happening Gourmand restaurant will you be hitting up this month?
