Last week, the Quartier des Spectacles celebrated an exciting addition to its gourmet restaurant scene with the opening of the Z Tapas Lounge. Located at the corner of Saint-Laurent and René-Lévesque, just outside the gates to Chinatown, the Z is Hotel Zero1’s newest restaurant.
Guests were invited to a glamorous opening fiesta to enjoy tastes of Latin-inspired dishes and signature cocktails. The Z’s menu reads like a culinary account of Chef Marielvi Falvino’s life and travels, drawing both on her South American roots as well as on her experiences and explorations of cuisines around the world.
The restaurant offers a wide selection of tapas and main courses, all of which come with a distinct Latin American twist. Through a clever play of rich yet simultaneously light ingredients, Chef Falvino has created some veritable flavour explosions!
One of our absolute favourites is the Ceviche de Lumina Peruvian ($12 – 16), a Latin American seafood dish made from sea bass, lime, Peruvian chilli peppers, coriander, and Venezuelan chayote.
Other must-tries include the “Rico” Sopa de Tortilla Mexicana ($8), a tomato soup seasoned with Guajillo peppers and served with crispy tortillas, avocado, and radish salsa, the orange-flavour deer tartare ($14), and the chipotle-spiced lobster rolls ($13).
Don’t let the fun stop here! The drink menu, designed by cocktail artist Patrice Plante, is every bit as exciting as the food. In line with the Z’s overall theme, the expert mixologist draws on classic South American ingredients to create a unique selection of signature drinks. The results are a tart and creamy Pisco de Leche ($13), a combination of sweet dulce de leche fused with a classic Chilean Pisco Sour, the refreshing Galápagos cocktail ($12) and the Pan-Am ($12), a love match made from powerful American whiskey and a shot of tequila reposado.
Conveniently located in the heart of the Quartier des Spectacles, the Z has all the ingredients for a fun night out! Enjoy the lively atmosphere with friends, satisfy your tapas cravings, and slurp some awesome cocktails!
