Philémon Bar is always packed with locals who flock its doors for its buzzing vibe and stocked bar. They will quench your thirst with their extensive list of wine, bubblies, and original cocktails. They also have a selection of locally-inspired tapas if you’re feeling peckish. For the comic book fans out there: the name “Philémon” has nothing to do with the Franco-Belgian comic book character created by French artist Fred. Sorry to disappoint!

Situated in the heart of Montreal’s Old Port, Philémon Bar opens its doors on a side alley off of the cobblestoned St-Paul Street. The crowd is often young professionals looking for a 5-à-7 who want to listen to good music and enjoy a strong drink. Thanks to the huge mirror in the back with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking St-Paul Street, this Old Port neighborhood bar looks bigger than it actually is. Philémon Bar’s different mirrors, suspended lamps, and brick and stone walls give a rustic, yet modern touch to its decor. The different stools, chairs, and couches make the place cozy for a friendly gathering or a date night. Watch out: this trendy bar gets packed on Friday and Saturday nights with people ready to dance and have a good time.

An interesting side-note: the building where Philémon Bar is located is actually a heritage building built in 1860. It housed the Bacon Brothers’ company (circa 1886), a manufacturing company that is now member of the Chamber of Commerce.

Philémon Bar is open Monday to Wednesday from 5:00pm to 3:00am, Thursday and Friday from 4:00pm to 3:00am, and Saturday and Sunday from 6:00pm to 3:00am. The kitchen is open from 5:00pm to 11:00pm Tuesday to Saturday.
