Princess Grand Jamaica [Our Review]

Welcome to the very first post in our Travel from Montreall series! We kicked things off with a dreamy family getaway to Princess Grand Jamaica, an all-inclusive paradise perfectly on a scenic peninsula in Green Island, right between Montego Bay and Negril.

We booked through Sunwing.

First Impressions

From the moment we arrived, the resort wowed us with its chic design, airy interiors, and stunning ocean views. It seemed that every single room has an ocean view, a rare treat.

The Princess Grand Jamaica offers 590 suites in Family, Platinum, and Master categories. Many come with stylish amenities, private balconies, and for some lucky guests (for an additional fee), semi-private plunge pool access.

We stayed in the family section (there’s also an adults-only area and the Platinum Club). Our room was comfortable and smartly designed, no room keys, just a bracelet chip for access. One clever detail we loved? A simple green/red button by the door to signal whether we wanted housekeeping or privacy.

Adapted Access: The resort is fully equipped with accessible features, elevators and ramps including a pool lift at every pool.

The entire complex is easy to explore on foot, with pathways that cut through the hotel to connect different sections and plenty of great photo spots along the way.

Rooms

Our room was spacious, featuring a king bed and a pull-out sofa. We had hoped for two queen beds, but none were available. The king bed was firm yet comfortable, and there was an extra blanket in the closet.

The in-room safe was large enough to fit a 16-inch laptop, and an ironing board was provided. The bathroom had a double sink, and the shower was spacious enough for up to four people. The mini-fridge came stocked with beer, Coca-Cola, soft drinks, and water. The TV offered a variety of popular channels, including CNN, Disney, and Discovery.

Pools & Water Fun

Water lovers are spoiled here. The resort has five pools plus a water park:

  • Main pool – the central hub for lounging and swimming
  • Family pool – shallow and perfect for little ones
  • Platinum infinity rooftop pool – exclusive to Platinum guests, which we did not experience
  • Aquatic park area – with two pools, a splash pool, and fun water slides

We especially loved the water park, though it closes at 5 PM (and all other pools close by 7 PM), so keep that in mind if you like evening dips. Swim-out rooms are a great option for after-hours cooling off.

Towels can be exchanged daily and can found near the waterpark and bay.

Food & Drinks – A Culinary High Point

We can say this without hesitation: the food was phenomenal 100/10.

There are nine restaurants on-site, but regular guests have access to four: Italian, Jamaican, Mexican, and Asian. No reservations were needed during our stay, but we highly recommend arriving by 7 PM to avoid a 45 minute wait.

Some of our favourites:

  • Breakfast buffet – Fresh fruits (pineapple, papaya, kiwi), crepe station, smoothie station, 2 omelette stations, gluten-free bread, and a kids’ section.
  • Lunch – Aqua Snack Bar’s Greek salad was fresh and delicious. Two food trucks by the stage and waterpark served Jamaican jerk chicken, patties, corn, burgers, and more.
  • Dinner – We went to the Mexican restaurant twice (loved it) 8/10, adored the Jamaican menu 9/10, enjoyed the Asian spot 7/10, and found the Italian always busy (go early!) 7/10.

Between meals, we made full use of the 24-hour café for ice americanos, matcha, milkshakes, sandwiches, desserts, and ice cream.

They serve the best espresso martinis at the bars (special shoutout to their rum punch). Each restaurant has a waiting area with a bar or you can step out where you can enjoy live music while waiting for your table to be ready (they provide buzzers).

Entertainment & Activities

Evenings are lively and family-friendly:

  • 8 PM – Kids’ shows every night except Fridays, when there’s a glow party or PJ party at the kids’ club.
  • 9 PM – Resort themed shows.

Daytime fun includes sports facilities, a state of the art gym with bay views and technogym machines, yoga, pilates, and kickboxing classes throughout the week as well as a spinning studio. Spa treatments and nanny services are available for an extra cost.

Kid’s Club:

The kids’ club is fantastic and well-organized. Upon entering, there’s a screen displaying the day’s activities. Children aged 0–2 must be accompanied by a parent, and a parent is welcome to stay in the club with their child during the activities as of 3. If your child is participating in a scheduled activity, you’ll need to fill out a form with their details and your location should the caretakers need to find you.

The club features an arts and crafts room, kid-sized washrooms, a theatre with a backstage costume area, Xbox and arcade games, and even an outdoor play space. Was very impressive!

Cabanas & Extras

We splurged on a private pool cabana at the water park ($150 USD/11AM- 5PM). It came with butler service, a comfy daybed, a ceiling fan, and a TV, perfect for watching the kids play while staying shaded.

Cabanas at the Oasis pool ($200 USD/day) even include private swim-out pools and butler service.

Getting There with Sunwing

Our 7-night trip began with a Sunwing/WestJet flight. The plane was smaller than other airlines we’ve flown, so we opted to pay an $45 per seat for first-row legroom, very worth it. Snacks like cookies and pretzels, juice, water and coffee were free; meals and other snacks like chips, sandwiches, chocolate and alcohol were extra.

We opted for a private transfer from the airport (about 1 hr 15 min) to save time. We actually suggest taking the included hotel transfer as it wasn’t a big difference in terms of time and would save you an extra 100-150 USD per trip. Check-in took a bit longer than expected. They ask for your passports and to fill out a form with all of our information. Our room was ready and the warm welcome made up for it.

Safety & Service

The resort felt extremely safe thanks to gated access, security guards, and cameras. Lifeguards were attentive and didn’t hesitate to enforce safety rules, even giving 30-minute timeouts to children when necessary at the waterpark. Kids: don’t swim in front of the slides!

Service overall was excellent. Our concierge shared their WhatsApp number, making it easy to request help, ask questions or book extras like cabanas. Staff also checked for allergies at every meal.

Shops & Extras

On-site boutiques sell clothing, souvenirs, and jewellery. Prices for small items like magnets matched the airport, while alcohol was cheaper at duty-free.

Kids over 10 can enjoy a game room with Xbox and VR (free during our visit), though it’s not suited for little ones.

Pro Tip: Download the App

The hotel’s app includes maps, menus, and an hourly activity schedule, incredibly useful. If you don’t have it, there’s an interactive screen by the front desk.

Princess Grand Jamaica delivers on stunning scenery, family-friendly fun, and phenomenal food. From the pristine pools to the thoughtful service touches, it’s the kind of place where you can truly relax and your kids will be happily entertained from morning until night. And the entertainment team was amazing! Huge shoutout to Ashley and her team!

A casino is currently under construction. Room service is available at an additional cost of $5 USD per order. We didn’t have access to the Platinum Club, so we can’t provide details on those exclusive services.

Would we come back? Absolutely.
Would we recommend it? 100%

Please note, this trip was not sponsored.
