The beauty of a city like Montreal – one so saturated with bars and restaurants – is that there is always a hidden gem to be found. Bootlegger is a whiskey bar on St-Laurent that is celebrating its one year anniversary on the strip. If you’re not paying attention, you may actually miss the staircase up to this bar. As you walk in, you feel like you’ve left 2017 behind and walked into the prohibition era.

Bootlegger aims to recreate the old saloon vibe with the modern twist of an upscale, whiskey-based cocktail selection. Bootlegger is both a bar and a venue for live bands on weekends starting at 9:30pm. The live jazz music in the background adds to the cool and sophisticated ambience.

Bootlegger tells us they are trying to change the vibe of St-Laurent’s nightlife. Let’s be honest; we’ve all had that sloppy night that ended with $2 noodles. But through their extensive Whiskey selection, live jazz music, and creative seasonal cocktails, Bootlegger wants to bring something new to the nightlife scene in Montreal for people of all age groups!

They not only carry an extensive selection of Whiskey (we’re talking in the hundreds people!), they are also the only carrier of certain Whiskeys in Canada. That’s goldmine for you Whiskey lovers. But honestly, you don’t have to be a Whiskey fan or connoisseur to enjoy this bar. Many of their cocktails are Whiskey based, but the mixologist has paired it so wonderfully with fresh and original ingredients that the Whiskey is well balanced on the palate.  Our personal favourite was the Basil & Rye, which was so fragrant and fresh!
