You might’ve heard of this thing called the falafel. Tasty, crispy on the outside, delicious and moist on the inside, healthy, and most of all, vegetarian. If you don’t know yet, the falafel is typically a Middle-Eastern food. It consists of a deep-fried ball made from ground chickpeas and served in a pita.

You can find many falafel spots in and around the city, some better than others. However, no one was ever able to turn it into a popular dish. Almost all culinary traditions have been re-invented – all except for the falafel. That’s until Falafel Avenue popped up. Falafel Avenue takes the traditional falafel and adds a modern twist to it.

They started with the Big Fa, a 9-inch falafel sandwich which is baked, not fried.

Then they followed through with their amazing falafel salad (so simple yet so damn good). The 3 brothers behind Falafel Avenue didn’t stop there. For the first time in falafel history, you now have the choice between 4 falafel flavours.

1. Classic: the traditional recipe

2. Sunny: roasted red and yellow peppers with red onions

3. Green: fresh parsley, dill, and mint

4. Melty: stuffed with ooey gooey mozzarella (genius…)

But wait, you now have to choose from 5 different sauces, created by Falafel Avenue themselves.

1. Traditional: traditional tahini sauce
2. Spicy: spicy tahini sauce
3. Veggie: tahini sauce, dill, celery, cucumber
4. Fruity red: tahini sauce, pomegranate, cranberries
5. Olives and nuts: tahini sauce, sun-dried tomatoes, olives, nuts

Falafel Avenue is about much more than great food. It’s about introducing Montrealers to the rest of the world. Their website headline says it all, with a clever play on words “Welcome abroad.” The beautiful location has “FA culture” written all over it, which tells us that no attention to detail was spared.

Look out for more Falafel Avenues popping up; we have no doubt that FA culture will be spreading very quickly. And don’t forget to follow their Facebook page!
