What is a churro? For those of you who may not know, it is simply a fried dough pastry that is popular in many countries including Spain and Portugal, and it has now made its way to Montreal. Of course, there are many ways you can enjoy a churro as a variety of cultures have adopted, tweaked, and perfected their own recipes.

Churros are typically fried in light oil until the outer layer is golden brown. It is then sprinkled with sugar or can be dipped in chocolate, caramel, and any other toppings of your choice. While many of us may have had a churro before (or not), Le P’tit Creux Du Plateau takes it a step further by transforming the traditional churro into a delicious ice cream cone! It is a small spot located at 233 Pins Ave E. The staff is friendly and outgoing and they make you feel at home. Do not be shy to talk to them as they genuinely enjoy the company.

Those of you without a sweet tooth may hesitate. But, after trying their cleverly branded “Papi Churro Ice Cream,”we promise you will leave craving more. Let us walk you through the process. They make their churro batter fresh and then pipe them into their classic rigged churro shape. The piping process seems like they have their hands full, but it is all worth it in the end. They then take the churro and wrap it around a plastic cone essentially taking on the cone like shape. Then, they fry the dough for five minutes until it becomes golden brown, only to then drench the churro in sugar.

They don’t stop there. They fill the cone with vanilla ice cream and then top it with an insane amount of sweets. We enjoyed the caramel covered ice cream topped with marshmallows, caramel chunks, caramel sauce, and walnuts. They also have Oreo and strawberry flavours that are just as drool-worthy. Keep in mind that the churro cone is still hot, which makes the ice cream even more enjoyable. Once you reach the churro, you will get a bite out of the cold and creamy ice cream combined with the warm, fried, and crispy churro.

Le P’tit Creux du Plateau isn’t only serving delicious ice cream. They also have a small menu where you can enjoy some of their famous poutines. As they took part in Montreal’s “La Poutine Week,” their original style brought them a lot of attention. We know that when we go back, we will definitely order their “L’Antillaise” as they have replaced the fries with plantains (a green banana generally used for cooking) and topped it off with a creamy tarragon sauce.

We loved their churro ice cream and their fun atmosphere. So, if you have yet to try a churro, or you are simply craving the fried dough, Le P’tit Creux du Plateau does not disappoint.
