When you think Indian restaurant in Montreal, you think a hole in the wall with minimal décor but amazing food nonetheless. What if we told you there was an Indian restaurant with mouthwatering food and a gorgeous interior? Would you be planning your next date night? Hint: you should!

Rasoi is in Saint Henri and it’s just what the doctor ordered. When you walk in, you won’t know where to look first. The space is dimly lit with gorgeous light fixtures, but the room remains bright because of the beautifully painted walls. This is definitely somewhere that will impress your guests on first arrival.

As for the food, you’ll see everything you expect from an Indian restaurant, like butter chicken, goat vindaloo, and samosas. But, Rasoi has a twist. They are truly an Indian fusion restaurant and have blended Indian cuisine with inspirations from around the world, including our lovely Montreal.

Their lamb madras poutine ($10) with house fries, madras curry infused gravy, leg of lamb, crispy fried onions, and Quebec curd cheese is bursting with flavour, a real poutine 2.0. You never thought a poutine could be so classy.

Their new menu boasts a soup that is out of this world. Thai style red chilli pepper soup with coconut milk, pumpkin noodles, sweet potato, corn, and a soft boiled egg is everything you want in a soup and more. You’ll be licking the bowl clean and asking for seconds. Warning: this is no tiny appetizer soup. Arrive hungry.

Want lamb chop? You got it! Their lamb chop korma ($17) sits in a mildly spiced, yogurt based curry sauce with caramelized cippolini onions and marble potatoes. The dish is hearty and full of rich Indian flavours.

Want something lighter? Their masala fish ($25) is delicious. A full filet of Mediterranean sea bass marinated in a mint cucumber masala sits on a bed of sweet garlic Gujarati khadi sauce and is served with roasted cauliflower, green peas, and Asian mushrooms.

For dessert, get their crème brûlée ($6), because it’s original and not of the typical French variety. They use khalfi, an Indian ice cream, and add cardamon and ground pistachios. Definitely original flavours you won’t find anywhere else!

Rasoi‘s new and improved menu is really something to boast about. It gives Indian food an extra oomph, making it perfect for that special night out. But don’t be mistaken: just because the food is more refined, doesn’t mean you won’t (happily) leave with an Indian food baby.
