If BBQ is your thing, Blackstrap BBQ is your new home. Serving up authentic southern BBQ this far north of the border is hard to find but Blackstrap’s Dylan Kier has all the fixings on what it takes to make Montreal BBQ just as good as anything down South.
Kier had been competing for several years as a pitmaster before opening Blackstrap. His signature style keeps with BBQ tradition in the south of using dry rubs for flavouring, and then smoking the meat over apple and hickory woods until they have reached BBQ perfection.
No sauce is added to the meat during the cooking process but, for all the sauce lovers out there, Blackstrap has two signature house BBQ sauces, one sweet and tangy and one spicy Carolina style sauce.
New to the BBQ experience? Blackstrap has you covered with their Le Gros platter. Bring a friend…or two because this plate is huge but gives you a little bit of everything Blackstrap has to offer. From ribs, chicken, brisket, and all the fixin’s, including baked BBQ beans, home made coleslaw, and their famous fried mac and cheese.
If you want some traditional Montreal favourites with a Blackstrap twist, try the Burnt Ends Poutine or the Chilli Cheese Fries. If you still have room at the end of your meal, top it off with Balckstrap‘s amazing fried apple pie!
For a bit of Southern hospitality and some BBQ deliciousness, head out to Verdun for some Blackstrap BBQ!
