There are fast food joints a dime a dozen, and they usually scream high calorie cheat meals that are sometimes not even worth the cheat. But if you need a quick meal on the go, it doesn’t have to be tasteless and fat. You can hit up our newly discovered Mexican joint that makes yummy food with fresh ingredients every day.
Quesada Burritos and Tacos has 78 restaurants all across Canada but we’ve only just discovered them (our fault for staying away from fast food). They are the perfect lunch spot when you want something easy and fast but packing a ton of flavour.
They hosted a media event and we had a great night, likely because of the super competitive salsa competition. Each guest got to create their own salsa using varied ingredients provided by Quesada. They were then tested and judged by Steve Gill, founder and Chief Recipe Officer of Quesada. The competition was fierce (or maybe we just have a competitive streak), and we vied to be number one. Alas, we were not, but as consolation we remind ourselves that taste is subjective, after all.
Other than making salsas, we got to try a bunch of different dishes from Quesada. Their signature limited edition dish, the Drunken Chicken, got us a little boozy (just kidding!) with chicken marinated in garlic, ancho chili peppers, pasilla chili peppers, cinnamon, ground cloves, coriander, cumin, orange juice, tequila, chipotle tabasco, and more. The chicken and other toppings are then wrapped burrito style. Delish!
Because they marinate that chicken in tequila, they are lucky enough to have a liquor license. So you can easily have a boozy lunch! Just knock back a few tequila shots with a glass of wine or a beer, and you’re set to go back to work (but don’t blame us when you get to the office a little sloppy).
We tried a few different tacos and quesadillas, and one of our faves was the Barbacoa taco with succulent meat and simple and fresh toppings. We got to try a few items that were not on the menu yet, like their vegetarian tacos with Portobello and poblano. Veggies can be delicious too!
A great plus is that they make their salsas and guac fresh daily, so you know that you’re in for a treat when you go. We were guilty of sitting by the guac station and never leaving…
