By now, you’ve had at least one conversation with a friend that went something like this: “Where are you going out tonight?” “I’m gonna go to Somwhr.” “Ok but where are you going?” “Somwhr! It’s called Somwhr!” And that’s how most of us first heard of Somwhr Liquor Lounge. In writing, the difference is obvious, but verbally, it can get confusing. But once you know the popular nightclub, you won’t make the same mistake again.
Somwhr is in the trendy and always happening Old Montreal. It’s hard to see any actual signage when looking for the club, so you’re better off looking for the line of people outside. Because there’s always a line. It’s definitely one of this year’s places to be in Montreal nightlife.
The decor is very eye-catching, and you don’t need a caption in someone’s Snapchat feed to know where they are. The ceilings are lined with large round honeycombed lights with a domed ceiling. The lights alternate between different shades of red, and the light reflects on to the domed ceiling. The effect is really beautiful… but probably something you only pay attention to as you walk in. As the night progresses and the alcohol hits, there are probably other things (or people) in the club to grab your attention.
The club boasts two bars, both lined with mini honeycombed lights to add to the ambiance. The wall is lined with booths reserved for bottle service on busy nights.
Somwhr has become a place to see and be seen (if you’re into that sort of thing), so plan a girls night out this weekend. If you love to go clubbing and dance until you can’t feel your feet anymore, this is the spot. Just don’t be the party poopers who stand in a circle at the club with their drinks and just… stand.
Grab a seat at the bar, or get all your friends together and splurge on a bottle, and dance your heart out to sick house and hip hop beats.
