Ryu sushi bar has just opened a new location on Peel, and it will make you forget everything you think you know about sushi. We know we’re not in Kansas anymore when the manager tells us they don’t do avocado because it’s not really Japanese. If you want authentic, you came to the right spot.

Ryu is bringing forward a casual dining experience without compromising the quality of their products or ingredients.  At Ryu, they order their fish daily. Yes, you heard that correctly — you can’t get fresher than fresh. This is in line with their philosophy to let the fish’s flavour speak for itself without being drowned in sauces. And they are not wrong.

We highly recommend trying their Sashimi, specifically their Organic Salmon Tataki. The flavour is so fresh and the texture is like butter. Some of our other favourites include the Poke Bowl and the California Dream, a sweet and savoury roll served with a mountain of salmon tartar atop.

We know downtown is daunting with the construction in this city; fortunately with Ryu you can eat-in, take-out, or have your meal delivered with Foodora and UberEats. But it is definitely worth paying them a visit for their warm and friendly service!

This new sushi bar is also environmentally responsible, where all the seafood is 100% sustainable and/or origin certified. They include a glossary section on their menu which shows exactly where the seafood is caught. You don’t see this kind of transparency at your corner all-you-can-eat sushi shop. Further, all the packaging from their lunch bento boxes is made of compostable and recyclable materials!

Check them out for lunch or dinner any day of the week and let them raise the bar for your sushi expectations!
