Looking for a swanky place to go for after-work drinks with your friends or a date? Look no further than L’Atelier d’Argentine, a contemporary Argentinian steakhouse in the Old Port of Montreal. The restaurant is now offering a 5 à 7, or as the Argentinians say… 5 à Lit every Thursday night. The night boasts a new DJ every week to bump solid tracks to accompany tasty cocktails and delicious tapitas.

The restaurant is lit with dim, red lighting, adding to the warmth of the fireplace keeping it “lit” next to the DJ booth. The restaurant also flaunts a long and elegant bar, including the most friendly bar staff. The highlight of the atmosphere was definitely the music, as we swayed along to each new beat the DJ played.

To eat, we tried an assortment of the “tapitas”. The bite-sized appetizers were decadent and savory. First, we tried an Argentinian take on a classic sausage roll. The pastry was flaky and buttery and the meat was SO. GOOD. Seriously, the most tender and succulent meat that melted right in our mouths.

Next, we tried the “buñelo de espinaca.” These fritters loaded with spinach and fontina cheese were gooey and delicious. Finally, we tried the restaurant’s shrimp tempura. Obviously, it was delectable. Who doesn’t love tempura? Needless to say we went back for seconds. The tapitas range from $3-$20.

Of course, what’s a 5 à 7 without cocktails? L’Atelier d’Argentine’s cocktail menu is very diverse, sure to find something to please any palate. We started simple with a glass of Chardonnay off the wine menu. Next, we ventured into the eccentric array of specialty cocktails. First we tried a Caipicuya, a drink with cachaça, lime, passion fruit, and brown sugar. It tasted great, but the presentation was even better. The passionfruit was served on FIRE. Definitely insta-worthy.

Next, we tried the Duraznito cocktail. It was a fizzy peach cocktail served in a cute little mason jar. House wine and selected cocktails ring in at $6 each for 5 à Lit, definitely calling for a round or two… or three.
