Montreal is home to a countless selection of bars. However it can sometimes be a real challenge to find the right ones, all while having live music available. We’ve picked a couple of locations that cater to a variety of crowds, the choosing is yours. All of which are bars where you can grab a good drink and enjoy live music all in the comfort of the same seat.

Brutopia

This place has some of the best home-brewed beers in the city. Brutopia serves a wide selection of tapas a.k.a “Brutapas,” great finger food, sandwiches, and even a few vegetarian snacks. Grab a cold one and watch the game on one of their televisions.

Le Piano Rouge

Home to the pianist, Le Piano Rouge’s environment is inviting and cozy for those who appreciate live music. While it is mostly jazz music, you can catch a bit of blues, soul and R&B on occasion. There is an old rustic feeling to this venue, which is reflected by the somber atmosphere. Great spot for date night or to simply enjoy an evening with family or friends.

Casa Del Popolo

This music venue is one that is a favourite amongst many Montrealers. The reasoning behind it being a hit with the locals may have something to do with the 4$ pints of beer but either way, their selection of musical performers makes it a unique spot to loiter in. Aside from cheap drinks, they have a vegetarian-influenced menu if you get the late night munchies. On Monday and Tuesday nights you can attend the events for free!

Le Divan Orange

Le Divan Orange is a laid-back locale, promising an intimate experience considering the size of their venue which houses no more than 150 people at a time. This lends to its cozy nature. There is an artistic essence that fills up the space making it the perfect location to grab a sneak peak at emerging artists and talent in Montreal, who are both French and English speaking.

Barfly

Barfly is your typical dive bar where you’ll find an easygoing clientele in a grungy environment. They host live music every night of the week. Country and Bluegrass occupy the air on most nights, with the occasional punk or metal band on others. This place offers everything your typical hole in the wall bar would offer and remains one of the most considerably down to earth locations to listen to live music and kick it.

McKibbin’s

An excellent Irish pub with live music, what could be better right? McKibbin’s has a set list with a wide range of musical talent at all of their four locations harboring around the Montreal area. Every night as of 10pm, you can expect a live show. You’ll often find university students crowd inside for good inexpensive beers, comfort food and good conversation, which comes easy at McKibbin’s since their usual clientele are the down-to-earth kind. Drop by on Karaoke Tuesday and order a pint of beer, you’re guaranteed at least a laugh or two.
