This summer the Montreal Comiccon will be returning July 3-5 at Palais des Congres. Yesterday, the team at Comiccon held a press conference where they announced theguest stars and event details. Montreal Mayor “Jedi Master” Denis Coderre was in attendance and spoke about the amazing comic book culture we have here in the city. The whole science fiction, fantasy, horror, video game, cosplay, comic book culture will all be part of this year’s celebration. This year it is expected that about 60,000 people will attend; it will be the biggest ever! We’re going to expect a lot of cosplay (we’ve got our Wonder Woman cosplay ready).

The guests announced at today’s press conference are:
-Karen Gillan: the talented award-winning Scottish actor played the very skilled space assassin Nebula from The Guardians of the Galaxy and of course Amelia Pond from the emotional roller coaster that was Doctor Who.
-Sean Gunn: also from Guardians of the Galaxy, this actor was a chameleon playing a multitude of characters including but not limited to the performance of Rocket Raccoon, Thanos, Yondu’s first mate of the Ravagers, and Kraglin.
-Michael Rooker: We think you all know Rooker from the series The Walking Dead. He played the role of Merle Dixon, the brother of Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus). He was also Yondu, the leader of the Ravagers in Guardians of the Galaxy.
Also joining from The Walking Dead series are actors Scott Wilson (Herschel Greene) and John McDermitt (Eugene Porter).

Continuing on with the guest stars:
-Jason Momoa: Khal Drogo from Game of Thrones, the 2011 Conan the Barbarian, and now Aquaman for the upcoming blockbuster Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice… try to make fun of Aquaman now!
-John Barrowman: previously announced back in December, the multi talented Barrowman is a fan favourite from the DC Comics Arrow series and Torchwood.
-Jewel Staite: this Canadian actor played Kaylee Frye, Serenity’s mechanic, in the cult favourite that was Firefly along with the follow up film Serenity.
-Giancarlo Esposito: from Breaking Bad to Spike Lee’s Do The Right Thing, Esposito brought one of the best villains in arguably the best TV series: you da man. He also played in the TV series Revolution and participated in a couple Malcolm X films.

Montreal Comiccon also opens its doors to The Montreal HorrorFest inviting the man who played Jason X in the Friday the 13th films, Kane Kodder. The Montreal HorrorFest will add films, programmings, and guestsof the horror genre to Montreal Comiccon (last year they brought George A. Romero… enough said).

This year Montreal Comiccon is looking to emphasize the video game aspect of the event. Montreal is a powerhouse when it comes to gaming (Ubisoft, Eidos, Bioware, EA, etc…) not to mention the indie game scene. For this year, Montreal Comiccon will partner up with Multijoueur in bringing workshops, demos, panels, and gaming tournaments. They ‘ve invited Charles Martinet (voice of Mario, Luigi, and many more Nintendo characters). Canadian voice actor Mark Meer will also be in attendance for all you Mass Effect fans (don’t worry he’s nicer in person and nicer than the character he plays: Commander Shepard).

For the comic book stars line-up, we will find artists Mike Zeck (The Amazing Spider-Man, The Punisher), zombie-king Arthur Suydam (Marvel Zombies, The Walking Dead), and the award winning Canadian superstar Darwyn Cooke (DC: New Fontier, Catwoman). Darwyn Cooke is also the artist who rendered the 2015 Montreal Comiccon poster!
