Montreal’s lively Mile-End area is home to several of the city’s most popular food joints, and joining this list is our very own Russian doughnut shop: Chez Boris. Voluptuous, soft, moist, tender—and oh yes, let’s not forget made-to-order—these doughnuts, quite simply, can’t get any fresher or more delicious. You can spice up these tasty treats with a variety of different flavours, such as sugar, cinnamon, clove or chocolate. In addition to their delectable doughnuts, they also offer gourmet doughnut sandwiches a.k.a “beignewiches.” Chez Boris prides itself in using organic products. Here’s a list of some of their savory, yet sweet, doughnut concoctions:

-Guacamole, grilled peppers and mozzarella;
-Pork flank, green onions and Hoisin sauce;
-Egg, bacon jam and mozzarella;
-Homemade gravlax, cucumber, sour cream and dill.

You can even pick up a great caffeine/donut combo and choose from a variety of coffees or teas. Feeling adventurous? Try their homemade Kvass—a fermented drink made from regular or black rye bread. This friendly little neighborhood café offers free WI-FI, a book exchange and even some board games. A great spot alone or with friends.

Their not-too-sweet basic doughnut is great for creating innovative dishes like poutine. Check out their entry for the 2014 edition of Montreal’s Poutine WeekPoutine aux Beignes et Sauce au Canard – sliced doughnut fries, with duck gravy and cheese curds, price: $10. Chez Boris is a refreshing addition to Montreal’s multicultural culinary scene. Tasty food, fresh coffee and great vibes—give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.
