In a city as colorful as Montreal, it’s hard to imagine not being able to fulfill any of your heart’s or stomach’s desires. Good Mexican food may be hard to find in our lovely city, but we’ve found the perfect place. Limon’s incredible Mexican cuisine merges the city’s trendy vibes with south-of-the-border flavour you won’t need to hop on a plane to get to.
Limon’s atmosphere is upbeat and bistro chic. With its vibrant interior complete with deep-set wicker chairs, Chihuahua wall-art, and colourful accents, this is one restaurant that takes fun to a whole new level.
Limon focuses on bringing classic Mexican dishes to you with a Montreal twist. Some of the most notable delicacies include the shrimp salad appetizer ($16), complete with grilled shrimps, fresh tomatoes, avocados, and a lime hibiscus vinaigrette. The house guacamole ($10) is hands down one of the best in the city and the frijoles (black bean puree at $10) are on par with some of what our neighbours south of the border are cooking up.
The tacos ($13-$17) are served on freshly made corn tortillas and served with frijoles, rice, and pico de gallo, with options like beef, chorizo, fish, and carnitas (pork confit). Their gargantuan enchiladas ($21-$22) are great (bottomless stomach required) and include varieties like lamb, shrimp, and crab, served with their house mole sauce. If enchiladas and tacos aren’t enticing you, Limon cooks up some classic Mexican dishes like Cochinita Pibil ($23), which is a pork braised in orange, pineapple, and achiote sauce, and their own version of a traditional hamburger with chorizo, beef, and pico de gallo.
If after all that guacamole you still have room for dessert, the Churros con Cajeta ($8), churros with homemade calvados sauce, are to die for. Their Flan de Coco ($8), a creamy coconut milk flan served with roasted coconut and pineapple purée, is equally impressive. If you’d like something cool and refreshing, their trio of popsicles with mangorita (margarita and strawberry margarita at $12) are the perfect way to end your night.
If you’re looking for a fiesta of flavours, try Limon for some of the most authentic and delectable Mexican dishes in the city.
