The summer’s only beginning but Montreal is already host to a number of hot ticket events. If you’re looking to kick off the month of June properly, we’ve got you covered.

Sunday, June 1, 2014

Starting off with a Montreal summer institution, this week’s Piknic Électronik is not to be missed, with a slew of Mutek performers taking over the decks including Argentina’s Ernesto Ferreyra, Move D from Germany, and the enigmatic Italian Donato Dozzy closing off the day.

 Monday, June 2, 2014

Monday night sees the welcomed return of La Roux on Montreal soil after five years of absence. Promoting her soon to be released sophomore album Trouble In Paradise, and performing for the first time as a solo artist, you’ll be able to catch her at 8:00pm at the Virgin Mobile Corona Theatre.

 Tuesday, June 3, 2014

Montreal based collaborative musical endeavour The Fall Line are launching their new EP at a free 5 à 7 party at Le Divan Orange, and French pop troubadour Yann Tiersen will be in town promoting his new album Infinity at Club Soda at 8:00pm.

Wednesday, June 4, 2014

Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings had to cancel their previous show in Montreal, due to Sharon Jones’ cancer treatment, but they’re back to perform their brand of soul and funk at 8:00pm at the Virgin Mobile Corona Theatre.

Thursday, June 5, 2014

Local indie rock band Sunfields, accompanied by Brad Barr and Pang Attack, will be playing at Casa Del Popolo for an intimate show at 8:00pm.

Friday, June 6, 2014

Friday offers a slew of options, including South African rap-rave crew and all around weirdos Die Antwoord playing to a sold out crowd at Metropolis at 8:00pm. You’ll want to get on Facebook to score some tickets as the crew is known to put on quite the show, and by the looks of their new video Pitbull Terrier, they have no intention of slowing down. But if that isn’t your scene, then catch UK duo The Kills performing at L’Olympia with an opening set by Megan Remy’s one-woman lo-fi project U.S. Girls.

Saturday, June 7, 2014

After such a packed week you’ll probably want to catch a break, and First Aid Kit are there to provide it with their soft folk tunes at the Virgin Mobile Corona Theatre, including an opening set by Willy Mason. If folk isn’t your thing, then head on over to Le Divan Orange to catch a Montreal Fringe Festival performance by local indie rock band Miracle Fortress starting at 9:30pm.

Now memorize this list and impress your friends with your knowledge of what’s going on. You’re welcome.
