Every year in Montreal comes a special 3 day event that brings together the most heated of rivals: The Federation and The Jedi. Of course, if you understood that, then you know that this September 12th to 14th is the Montreal Comiccon at the Palais des Congres. It is the city’s celebration of sci-fi, comic books, anime, fantasy, and horror all in one multi-floor convention. Tour the booths and pick up all the latest fandom swag or admire the hundreds of artists come to display their skill. The city’s vendors come out in force with special deals you won’t get any other time. Last year, we bought a sword… we didn’t need it, but we bought it anyway… because you know… it’s a sword.

This year’s offering of celebrities includes most of the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation including Sir Patrick Stewart. All Dr. Who fans probably already know that Matt Smith*** will be in attendance, as will The Arrow himself, Stephen Amell, along with his 8-pack. Did I mention there are photo ops where you get to touch said 8-packs? Tricia Helfer (the supermodel) will also be in attendance. Other notables present include cast from The Walking Dead, Battlestar Galactica, Lord of the Rings, and Dexter. But if photo ops, movie panels, and buying wonderful paraphernalia still are not enough to get you to the Montreal Comiccon, how about a tug at your childhood? There will be real life Power Rangers there: Red and Black. Lavar Burton, A.K.A. the man who taught us to read on Reading Rainbow, will also be there.

However, if none of this works, then consider this: walking around you will be hundreds of people costumed up as every icon of fandom under the sun. There is even a parade of these heroes of cosplay. That alone is worth the pittance of $20 – $40 admission. Hurry up though, because the cheaper online tickets end soon! If you need to plan out your itinerary, check out the floor map and get ready to get your fandom on.

***Editor’s Note: It was just announced that Matt Smith regrettably had to cancel his appearance at this year’s Montreal Comiccon due to a new project. Montreal Comiccon has stated that fans who have already purchased Photo Ops and/or the Hour of the Doctor special event tickets will be reimbursed. 09/12/2014
