Looking for that perfect recipe to impress your mother-in-law? Put down your internet search and head over to Appetite for Books on Victoria in Montreal’s prosperous Westmount neighbourhood. As you step through the doors, you are treated to a book- and food-lover’s delight – row upon row of cookbooks offered in both English and French, and a fully equipped professional kitchen in the back. Appetite for Books offers a unique experience to Montreal foodies.

Whether you’re looking to add to your collection of recipe books or read about your favourite chef, Appetite for Books will have what you’re looking for; owner Jonathan Cheung has made sure of that.

Chef Jonathan Cheung grew up in the restaurant business and started his career in Vancouver before moving to Hong Kong to work in his family’s restaurants.  Later, he moved to Montreal to further his passion.  Jonathan Cheung wanted to share both his cooking skills and his enthusiasm for cooking. He accomplished this dream when he opened Appetite for Books in 2006.

What makes this bookstore so different?  How about the professional kitchen where cooking demonstrations, classes, and tastings are offered throughout the year!  The classes are based on different cookbooks and regardless of your cooking experience, everyone can fit in one class or another.  Led by Chef Cheung, you’ll learn new techniques, new cuisines, and enjoy a meal at the end of the class.  The prices and dates for the classes vary, see here for more details.  There is also an option to have a private class with up to 10 of your friends that starts at $95 per guest and includes a four-course meal.

So whether you’re looking to build your cookbook collection, meet a celebrity chef at a book signing, or build your repertoire of cooking techniques, Appetite for Books is the place to feed your voracious appetite.

Open Monday to Friday from 10:00am to 6:00pm and Saturday from 10:00am to 5:00pm.
