Dix30 has been blowing up with all its new events, restaurants, and bars. And so, in the tradition of opening new hotspots comes Dirty D a Mexican dive bar the South Shore didn’t even know it needed. The same people who brought you Mile Public House and Snowbird Tiki Bar are at it again with this small but intensely themed taqueria and restaurant. From the wall of crosses, the hanging bird cages, and the plants growing down from the ceiling to their brand-new terrace, this place gets lit.

So first and foremost are the perfect-for-summer drinks. Dirty D’s Margaritas ($9) balance the bite of tequila and the sweet tang of lime perfectly, and the grapefruit flavoured Palomas ($9) are must tries. However, the Lolita in a pineapple ($22) is like a raspberry pina colada served in a pineapple and will make you think you’re sitting around a bar in Cancun.

Another fun drink is the El Tresoro Del Pirata ($35), which is a massive drink served in a glass skull including dark rum, bananas, pineapples, orange, and lime. If you don’t leave there tipsy, you’re not doing it right.

But if refreshing Mexican concoctions aren’t the way you go, then try Dirty D’s food (but really, do it anyways!) There are five types of tacos ($12) including Al Pastor with pineapple, cumin chicken, chipotle shrimp, cheese, and chorizo, or the vegetarian with pickled onions. Each order comes with three tacos and they are always on point.

Though, if you like something a little bigger, the Doblada ($10) is like the calzone of Mexico and it is packed full of melty cheese and your choice of meat. Finally, the Dirty Rice ($14) is definitely worth a mention as it is a bowl of rice, combined with all the delicious meats and topped with Pico de Gallo. So good!

This was Dirty D’s first summer and they took full advantage with their fun atmosphere and South American music. Come on a weekend and you shouldn’t be surprised to get caught up in the vibe and dance in the back area, knowingly freed up for just such an occasion.

The drinks are excellent, the DJ is poppin, and the atmosphere will trick your mind into thinking you went WAY more South than you thought. Though if all that wasn’t enough, Tuesdays are now Taco Tuesdays with half price tacos and $2 off margaritas and palomas.
