From July 18th to the 20th, 2014 at the Esplanade of the Olympic park, Jackalope Action Sports presents Montreal’s 3nd annual sports competition (did we mention that it’s free?).

With athletes from all over the world, including Brazil, USA, France, and Japan, Jackalope is sure to offer an exciting 3-day competition of skateboarding, motocross, and parkour. While this festival is in its 3rd installment, Jackalope has included new additions that will be presented at this year’s competition.

This year will be the first year that they have decided to extend the festival to three days. The first day will be comprised of a practice and demonstration day. The athletes will be able to show off their skills and practice their routines for spectators. The following two days will showcase an exciting competition of the three sports. Finally, this year will be the first time parkour is included in the festivities. Parkour practitioners use their bodies and their surroundings to propel themselves from point A to point B. Parkour includes a meticulous combination of climbing, rolling, jumping, swinging, and more in order to get from one place to another in the most efficient and safe way possible.

The winners of each competition will receive a cash prize. Another new feature includes a video competition, where a team must submit an original video that explores the different ways to film action sports, such as longboard, parkour, skatboard, motocross, and varied others. Each video must be 2-3 minutes long and will be shown on an outdoor projection on July 18th. First to third prize winners can score $1500, $900, and $600 in Lozeau gift certificates and cash prizes of $250, $150, and $100.

In their first year, Jackalope attracted some 6,000 spectators over the course of 2 days, while last year they amassed 6,000 spectators in their first day only. The festival seems to be gaining quite a bit of buzz and is clearly generating more and more Montrealers who are interested in watching some pretty rad people showcasing their amazing skills.

Be sure to check out yet another incredible festival in this great city and prepare to be amazed.
