Suite 701 has been around with us for a grand 10 years, and to celebrate this huge milestone, we were invited to a burlesque themed event where the food, cocktails, and entertainment were taken to a whole other level! This special occasion not only attracted media guests, but many fan foodies, who ate and drank the night away!
The burlesque theme was amped up with a live performance by Montreal’s very own Scarlett James. Scarlett welcomed her audience as Marie-Antoinette, made a sexy switch into feathers and powder puffs, and ended her performance in a giant champagne glass. However, her vintage glamourous costumes and props weren’t the only thing that swept the audience off their feet; her outstanding showmanship had the audience reliving the 50s.
The purpose of this evening was to celebrate their 10th anniversary, and Suite 701 never fails to impress with the launch of new food and cocktail menus. A key to their ongoing success! We opted for their bar menu that way we could explore several sharable dishes. Our strategy proved to be the smartest, making enough room for drinks, a variety of dishes, and a rewarding dessert!
We like to think that the proper etiquette at Suite 701 is to begin with a signature martini or cocktail…or both! We chose the Golden Lion Martini prepped with Gin Tanqueray, sweet apple juice, elderflower, cucumber, lime, and cinnamon. It was like summer in your mouth: fresh, sweet, and absolutely perfect!
We then moved onto their extensive wine list, and with the help of our waiter, we were able to find a crisp wine to complement our dishes. First came the salmon tartare mixed with grilled pineapple, mint, coriander, avocado, and lime. We quickly scooped it up with chips, and then turned to the homemade smoked trout topped with yuzu marinated onions on a bed of apples and daikon remoulade.
To break up the fish before our surf & turf, we ordered a beet salad tossed with goat cheese, Meyer lemon, and pumpkin seeds. Then came the pan seared scallops and black pudding (super interesting, and very new to our palates), served with Chardonnay green apples and beets.
While we were approaching our limits, we felt guilty not ordering Suite 701‘s famous mini burgers, so that’s just what we did! After a pause between our meal and coffee, we made room for the most decadent velvety chocolate cake our palates ever did taste.
Suite 701 boasts an array of delectable flavours for brunch, lunch, dinner, or simply cocktails and small bites. They also have a limited time lunch ($15) and dinner ($25) menu for Happening Gourmand 2016 until February 7, 2016.
